OUR FOUNDER

Letina (Tina) Brady Pettis, a native of Chicago's south side, grew up inspired by the community leadership of her father and family members who advocated for voting rights—their role in shaping community perspectives instilled in Tina a deep commitment to public service. After a fruitful career in higher education, Tina transitioned into active community engagement, demonstrating a passionate commitment to voting rights and social advocacy.

Tina’s dedication to voting rights was further ignited after Governor JB Pritzker signed the reform bill SB2123. This significant legislation, effective on January 1, 2024, allows 16-year-olds to pre-register to vote.

As a passionate advocate for youth civic engagement, Tina founded Get Out the Vote (GOTV) 4 Teens, an organization dedicated to empowering teenagers to participate in the democratic process. Recognizing the importance of early involvement in voting, she established National Teens Voter Registration Day in May 2024, a nationwide initiative encouraging teens to register to vote and understand their role in shaping the future. Celebrated every year on September 10, this day holds special significance as it is Tina's father's birthday, to whom the initiative is dedicated. This movement inspires young individuals

to participate actively in their communities and also serves as a tribute to her father's influence in shaping her commitment to civic responsibility. With a steadfast commitment to education

and advocacy, Tina ensures that the next generation is informed, engaged, and ready to lead.

Beyond her advocacy and organizational work, Tina is a celebrated author who has published two children's books: I Want to Vote and I Voted. Both books follow the journey of Tricee, a young girl discovering the power of voting and the importance of democracy. These works are more than just compelling narratives; they serve as vital educational tools that inspire young readers to recognize the significance of their voices in the democratic process. Through Tricee's story, Tina helps young people see themselves as future voters ready to take part in shaping their communities and country. I Want to Vote, and I Voted to emphasize that the journey to civic engagement starts early. Tina has provided a resource that will resonate with generations of future voters.

Tina is the Director and Co-Chair of the League of Women Voters of Illinois-Issues and Advocacy and the Director of Issues and Advocacy for the League of Women Voters of Chicago. Her advocacy extends to various community-focused groups, including Diversity and Inclusion, Cook County Criminal Justice, and Community Oversight of Police. She is a vocal advocate for women's rights, the fight against gun violence, and the promotion of voting rights. Tina is an active member of several organizations, including the National Council of Negro Women, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, National Women Veterans United, and The Links, Incorporated. Her involvement in these groups further amplifies her commitment to social justice and community development

Tina holds a bachelor's degree from DePaul University, a master's degree in Legal Studies from Purdue University Global, and a Diversity and Inclusion certification from Cornell University.
