OUR HISTORY

Get Out the Vote (GOTV) 4 Teens was founded to empower and engage young people in the democratic process. The initiative began in early 2024, driven by the critical need for youth involvement in shaping our nation's future.

Our journey began with an inspiring kickoff event at Simeon Career Academy on January 17, 2024, where 300 enthusiastic students registered to vote under the leadership of Principal Trista Harper. Motivated by the energy and dedication of these young participants, our founder, Letina (Tina) Brady Pettis, established National Teens Voter Registration Day, which will take place on September 10, 2024. This special day is dedicated to teens and encourages active civic involvement.

A key achievement was when Illinois State Senator Mike Simmons championed legislation that led to Governor JB Pritzker signing a bill allowing 16-year-olds to pre-register to vote, providing an essential tool to engage young people early in the democratic process. Throughout 2024, GOTV 4 Teens has rapidly expanded its reach, organizing voter registration drives, educational workshops, and community events to promote teen civic engagement. Our efforts were further recognized when the Illinois State Senate adopted a resolution declaring Teens Voter Registration Day. This recognition is a testament to the impact of our collective efforts, including yours, our esteemed audience.

Our motto, "Voices of Tomorrow Starts With a Vote Today," reflects our unwavering commitment to building a vibrant, participatory democracy for future generations. We continue to build on this momentum, providing teens with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to become informed and active voters. By engaging young people today, we are shaping the leaders of tomorrow and inspiring hope for a brighter future.
